Plan before the cold arrives.
Transport Canada notes that all-season and summer tires begin to lose elasticity below 7°C. Arrange your seasonal change as colder weather approaches, and consider the conditions along your route.
Québec: December 1 to March 15.
Québec requires winter tires from December 1 through March 15 inclusive for covered Québec-registered motor vehicles. Exceptions apply, and vehicles registered outside Québec are excluded from this provincial requirement. Check the official guidance for your vehicle and any studded-tire restrictions.
Fit four matching winter tires.
Transport Canada recommends winter tires on all four wheels. Match the type, size, load index and speed rating as specified for your vehicle, and have a qualified professional confirm the installation.
Choose for the whole season.
Winter, all-weather and all-season are not interchangeable labels. Check the manufacturer’s intended use and your provincial rules. The legal calendar is a minimum: local weather can call for an earlier switch and a later return to summer tires.
